Black History Month
This is someone from our past who still affects our present lives. Henrietta Lacks, the mother of the HeLa cell, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1951. Her cancer cells were taken from her for medical research and she was not credited for this research until 1976. Her cells were the first immortal cell line, and they have been the cause of countless medical breakthroughs like the covid and polio vaccines, and have helped immensely in cancer research.
