Karen McMenamy ’08

A graduate of the University of Minnesota dance program, McMenamy performed as a company member with Threads Dance Project before founding her own modern dance collective with four other university peers called DaNCEBUMS in 2013. The grassroots dance collective has since performed at Bryant-Lake Bowl, The Southern Theater, The Cowles Center for Dance, Icehouse, Red Eye Theater, the Lee & Rose Coliseum at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds (as half-time for the MN Roller Derby), and the Walker Art Center’s McGuire Theater as part of the
Choreographer’s Evening. DaNCEBUMS realized their dream of becoming a dance band – taking their work out of the theater and into bars, music venues, and parties. Joined by keyboardist/vocalist Eric Mayson, and percussionist Toby Ramaswamy, they have performed at 7th St Entry, Kitty Cat Klub, Eagles Club #34, Public Functionary, The Swedish Institute, and on live television as part of TPT’s Takeover Series.
